My Amazon Associates Account Has Been Unjustifiably Terminated

associates

Barely two hours ago, Amazon sent me an email telling me that they were terminating my Associates account, which I use to make money by marketing products on the site. For example, I earn money for every book review I write by using Amazon Associates links, which is part of the reason why I write so many of them.

Beyond being a direct attack on my income, Amazon’s reasons for closing down my account are unjustified and in one case, completely false. Here is the email they sent me:

Hello.

We are writing to notify you that we are terminating the Amazon Associates Program Operating Agreement with you with immediate effect.  Your Associates Program account will be closed and you will not receive further payment of advertising fees.  We have taken this step because you are not in compliance with the Operating Agreement that governs your participation in the Associates Program.

You are not in compliance with Participation Requirement Number 14 because you are offering a consideration or incentive for others to use your Special Links.

In addition, you are not in compliance with Participation Requirement 1 because your site is unsuitable, as it promotes discrimination and contains libelous/defamatory materials.

You can find the complete terms of the Operating Agreement and its Schedules via this link:  https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/agreement.

We insist that you immediately stop this activity and remove all Amazon content, including Special Links, from your site(s).  Any other accounts you have or may open in the future may be closed and you will not receive any advertising fees.  We reserve all other rights and claims we may have.

Warmest Regards,

Amazon.com

My supposed violation of Participation Requirement Rule 14 is bogus: I’ve never offered any sort of incentive or consideration for my readers to click my affiliate links. As for my violation of Rule 1, the definition of “promot[ing] discrimination” and “libelous/defamatory materials” is so vague that it could mean almost anything (and in practice probably means “anything that leftists don’t like”).

I’ve emailed Amazon asking for specific examples of how I’ve violated both rules, but I haven’t heard back from them yet.

Losing my Amazon Associates account won’t be a huge hit to my income—I usually only make about $50-100 a month from Amazon links—but it still represents a loss. I’ll keep you updated on the situation.

UPDATE (1/27/2016): I received this response from Amazon in response to my request for specific examples of how I violated their rules. Check it out:

Hello again from the Associates Program.

As previously stated, we have terminated the Amazon Associates Program Operating Agreement with you with immediate effect. Your Associates Program account has been closed and you will not receive further payment of advertising fees. We have taken this step because you are not in compliance with the Operating Agreement that governs your participation in the Associates Program.

You are not in compliance with Participation Requirement 1 because your site is unsuitable, as it promotes discrimination and contains libelous/defamatory materials. Some examples of this behavior can be found at the following links:

http://mattforney.com/beat-girlfriend-wife-get-away/

http://mattforney.com/crush-girls-self-esteem/

Additionally, you are not in compliance with Participation Requirement Number 14. Your website states: “Shop at Amazon by clicking the banner ad above and I get a commission at no extra cost to you.”

Please note, Associates may donate their earnings to their own organization, but may not announce to their visitors that a portion or all the proceeds will go to a particular organization or how the proceeds will be utilized.

You can find the complete terms of the Operating Agreement and its Schedules via this link: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/agreement.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Best regards,

Gary – Associates Account Specialist

Thank you.

In other words, making fun of fat girls and talking about female submission and spanking “promotes discrimination” in the eyes of Amazon. It’s just as I thought: if you don’t tow the social justice line, they don’t want you around.

But the real clincher is my supposed “violation” of Rule 14. How is telling you that I get a commission if you shop at Amazon by using my affiliate links an “incentive?” In fact, I’m required by FTC regulations to tell you that I get a commission from affiliate links, and in fact I have a disclaimer in my site’s Terms of Use about it. Amazon’s punishing me for obeying the law?

I’ll continue providing updates on this situation as time permits.

Sorry to hear that, once again goes to show that really no platform that you don’t own is secure.
The problem with #1 is that no matter how your dispute gets solved, as the Overton window moves further left, more and more people with conservative opinions will be hung to dry. It’s “not just politics” – it’s our liveblood. Good on you that you have an own bookstore.

  • Sucks man, they shut mine down a few months ago because I didn’t sign a contract for new policies they implemented. Something about underage kids. Never saw a warning email.

Had to start a new associates account and go back to every single link on my blog and redo it.

What the fuck is “…unsuitable, as it promotes discrimination and contains libelous/defamatory materials.”

Horseshit is what that is. Let us know if they ever give you an answer.

  • “Warmest Regards”

  • It goes to show how important it is to have multiple income streams. Any man who does not is not free.

  • They did the same to me. Shut it down without ever giving me a warning. Not that it matters because Cuckorado wanted to tax Amazon so Amazon told CO to get fucked. I’d have to start an out-of-state company if I wanted to use their affiliate program or move

  • Grizzly

I read the third article. It’s hard to explain why, but I get the gut feeling that it is more than a little spergy.

The bit about sticking your finger in your chick’s asshole is too gay for my tastes. Rectums are for homos.

I’m also curious as to the specific FTC rule you mention. Is there a cite I can read?

  • His platform is still as 100% secure as it was prior to his [multiple] violations of Amazon.

He just can’t foment violence and anger and hatred and profit on Amazon from it at the same time.

I can sell crucifix cookies at all the churches in my state; but if I start boxing them and intentionally make the crosses upside down on those boxes, then I have lost the right to whine like a bald baby over my own atrocious acts. Men should begin to be held to the same standards.

  • FlorianUlrich

Tell me one woman whose contract with Amazon got terminated because of perceived misandrist or “hateful” comments. Then we talk about being “held to the same standards”.
And Amazon’s actions don’t even make sense in a wider context, since they still sell Matt’s books.

  • Be happy they didn’t demand retroactive re-payment of the profit they allowed you to make by affiliating with their large, successful company.

Also be thankful they couldn’t cite your frequent race-cleansing incitements on Twitter (and/or Facebook if you have one of those, I wouldn’t know). One needn’t kowtow to the imaginary power of SJWs in order to still be considered a human being capable of living within the confines of human society with other humans. This site (and at least your Twitter) so very frequently annihilates Blacks, Jews, gays, women (with tattoos, with piercings, with heavy makeup, with appropriate OR excess weight, with children, with plural sexual partners, or with a mind of her own), and also is frankly quite misandrist inasmuch as any men who don’t fall to their knees and suckle at the cock of misogyny are branded with misandrist slurs such as Pussy, beta, faggot, simp, and a good dozen or so more emasculating names.

If the Black Panthers and NAMbLA can’t profit from Amazon affiliate linking won’t complain that you can’t either.

  • I don’t think I’ve mentioned women, do you think I’ve mentioned women?

Also, pro-tip: barking “tell me[…]” is not a valid way to get people to do your work for you.

Amazon is a sovereign company, unless you know something that no one else knows. (Before I continue, do you know something that no one else knows??) If Amazon (or any other fully- incorporated sovereign business) doesn’t want to financially reward atrocious levels of hatred OF EVERY KIND, then why should they be forced to?

This site — as well as this site’s Twitter account — consistently abuse the living shit out of just about 95% of the human population. If you’re Black, Brown, Jewish, gay, foreign, female (particularly if tattooed, pierced, blue-haired, average- or overweight, employed, educated, have kids, have had sex with anyone other than the person reading any Forney article, or has any appreciable sense of identity), and even many men, i.e., men who do not follow the manospherian ideals — then Matt Forney and his armband-wearing acolytes will abuse you.

Amazon really did not even have a choice in the matter. THEY must abide by the rules that THEY set forth.

  • FlorianUlrich

We troll THAT many people? Awesome, I didn’t know. Now I can sleep a happy man.

  • Well, ‘happy’, yes. But “man” requires something that bigotry removes from a male.

  • FlorianUlrich

This sounds like the beginning of a wonderful friendship.

  • Hey they shut down one of mine as well. I had to create a new account for not doing that “step”.
I emailed them and they sent me a check for my earnings and walked me through how to make another one and assured that this “step” is already included in the new account making process. lol

  • So if you’re in CO – you cannot receive earnings? I don’t get it. I am outside the country and they don’t tax amazon I had to file a w-8
