Maggots Feasting on the Corpse of the American Dream

NOTE: This article was originally published at The Right Stuff on January 16, 2013, then republished at Alternative Right on January 19. I’m re-posting it here as the site is now defunct.

During my two-month stint in the oil fields of North Dakota, I met a lot of reporters from all over the world: Germany, France, Switzerland, Japan. The only country that wasn’t interested in the oil patch was America itself, for some reason. The only American journalists you’ll find in Williston are either from the local paper or TV crews from nearby Minot or Bismarck.

Now the government-media complex is turning their disapproving eye on the Bakken, lamenting the plight of the womenfolk there:

At work, at housing camps and in bars and restaurants, men have been left to mingle with their own. High heels and skirts are as rare around here as veggie burgers. Some men liken the environment to the military or prison.

“It’s bad, dude,” said Jon Kenworthy, 22, who moved to Williston from Indiana in early December. “I was talking to my buddy here. I told him I was going to import from Indiana because there’s nothing here.”

This has complicated life for women in the region as well.

Many said they felt unsafe. Several said they could not even shop at the local Walmart without men following them through the store. Girls’ night out usually becomes an exercise in fending off obnoxious, overzealous suitors who often flaunt their newfound wealth.

“So many people look at you like you’re a piece of meat,” said Megan Dye, 28, a nearly lifelong Williston resident. “It’s disgusting. It’s gross.”

Feminist coffee klatch Jezebel also picked up on the above story, adding their typical snarky and contentless commentary to the mix:

The workers, however, seem less concerned with the violence against female residents and more about their inability to get laid. Men joke about a “Williston 10″ — a woman who would be deemed unattractive anywhere else in the country, but becomes a viable option out of desperation — and there’s often talk about bringing in women from the outside.

All of the claims made in the articles are massively exaggerated. It’s true that women there are less safe than they would be in the 99% white ZIP codes that the average NYT employee lives in, but this can be mitigated by basic common sense. Don’t leave the house after dark without a male escort. Don’t dress like a prostitute. Don’t get sloppy drunk.

In other words, you won’t find trouble unless you specifically go looking for it.

This is the second prong of the Cathedral’s attack on the oil patch, the last bastion of productive private sector work in America. North Dakota is the state with the lowest unemployment rate and one of only three that is running a budget surplus; the other two are South Dakota and Montana, the other states that contain part of the Bakken. Taxes are low and getting lower; as part of his reelection campaign, Governor Jack Dalrymple promised a huge property tax cut for the state’s residents.

Meanwhile, both the NYT and Gawker Media (Jezebel’s parent company) are based in New York, one of the most economically depressed states in the union. The state’s deficit is one of the largest, taxes are high and going higher, and Governor Andrew Cuomo is a brazen sociopath who is more concerned with stealing guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens than addressing the fact that nobody wants to live in the Empire State anymore.

Put simply, the vampires are running out of victims to prey on.

Anti-hydrofracking groups, funded with Saudi oil money, have been trying to scare people into banning fracking by making up lies that it causes earthquakes and pollutes drinking water. Their propaganda is backfiring; environmentalist movies like Promised Land (which was bankrolled by the government of Qatar, another Middle Eastern oil barony that would be in big trouble if America became energy independent) are getting panned by the critics for being too heavy-handed. The people want to drill, baby, drill.

So the Cathedral has fallen back on one of their oldest and cheapest tactics: the woman card.

Expect the hysteria about RAPE! RAPE! RAPE! in the Bakken to accelerate. Expect the Democrats in Congress to lead a commission investigating the “oppression” of women in North Dakota. Expect loaded inquiries into why so few women are being hired by Halliburton et al. and why men are making so much more. Even if it goes nowhere, I fully expect Obama to do what he did with the Keystone pipeline; scuttle and wreck progress in the Bakken until he gets his blood money, like an African strongman or Mafia don.

After all, when it’s the welfare of the wimmenz that’s at stake, how can you say no? “What, do you WANT women to be raped by these evil, knuckle-dragging roustabouts? What kind of patriarchal monster ARE you?”

Obama and his supporters are maggots feasting on the corpse of the American dream.

  • As always when the blood starts flowing the vampires come a sucking!

    Great Post!

  • John Engelman

nobody wants to live in the Empire State anymore.

    – Matt Forney

If this is true, why does it cost so much to live in New York City? It costs so much because rich, well educated, high IQ people who would never want to move to North Dakota do want to move to one of the most exciting cities in the world.

One of the things they like is the cultural diversity.

  • Engelman:

Yes, ignore the fact that New York has been losing population for decades.

Ignore the fact that New York has been losing electoral votes and Congressional representation to Florida and Texas for decades.

Ignore the fact that New York state has the highest property tax burdens in the country (of the top ten counties with the highest property tax burdens, NINE are in New York).

Ignore the fact that independent studies have repeatedly shown New York is the least free, most business-unfriendly state in the U.S. (even worse than California).

Ignore the fact that THE CURRENT MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY campaigned on how middle-class families are being shut out of the Big Apple.

Ignore the fact that THE CURRENT GOVERNOR OF NEW YORK STATE has focused his energies on trying to lure businesses back to New York (and failing, I might add).

No, apparently the cost of living in New York (artificially inflated by billionaires and trust-fund hipsters) is proof that New York is still the most desirable place in the world.

One of the things they like is the cultural diversity.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahehehehehehohohohoho *pauses to catch breath* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • Theodore Logan

Jew York City; back in colonial days, jewish merchants referred to NYC as New Jerusalem or New Zion. Engelman? Sounds like a member of the tribe defending his own.

  • manosphere

Theodore take your anti-Antisemitism to your clan rallies, idiot.

  • John Engelman

The Ashkenazim are the most superior race in existence.

  • I laughed at the cultural diversity remark. The only thing positive about it is that you get a taste for what women are like in other parts of the world (Poland, Russia, Brazil) it’s all too bittersweet at times. The rest is just waves of Asian and Hispanic.

Try riding public transportation, I’m surprised when I hear anybody speaking English anymore. North Dakota and the oil field represents possibility, a great perhaps. I believe there is more out there, I’ve tasted it. Not everything is supposed to be like this.

You can see it in the eyes of every innocent holiday tourist. In the jaded glance of the Midwest law student, who at 24 is one too many dicks deep on the New York carousel. Being born as a New Yorker has been both a blessing and a curse. We are spoiled with endless variety, culture and people. But what is the cost?

After all the girls, all the crazy parties, all the crowds, the lights, the art, the madness a little voice starts to creep up and say “I want to leave.” I understand why people expat, because in America even the best of the best is still the best of the worst.

New York traps you, it funnels you through a terrible public school system into an expensive and worthless SUNY college conglomerate only to spit you out into an awful job market with no real skills or prospects unless you want to A) Sell and use drugs or B) work for min wage in possibly the most expensive place on the planet.

Long Island is getting gutted right now simply because how can a young person survive? How long can you live with your parents? How long until you default on your college loans and Sallie Mae is hammering you for every single penny.

Bakken is a way out, a dream, a crazy semi delusional fantasy that maybe just maybe you can make any serious amount of money in America and then leave. People need dreams, they need hope to keep going. I need this idea of Bakken this place I’ve never been to and only heard of to keep grinding it out in New York.

Crazy? Possibly. Deluded? Maybe that too I can’t help but fantasize. The grass is greener and all those platitudes but I’m gonna go for it anyway. Wish me luck.

Not only guilty of a non-sequitur of Godzilla proportions, but the truly sad thing is that “Engelmen” is most likely a mere SWPL just trying to yank the non-leftoid chain, in a mediocre attempt to stop the oppressive cognitive dissonance owwies… as most YKWs are aware that un-supported claims are of little debate value – only useful for propaganda (which the majority of the Forney readership would be approx. 1SD too smart to fall for).

The pertinent point here is that Englemen’s next post (perhaps under another alias) has a high probability of containing the usual equalist / moral relativist anti-logic claiming that all races are equal…

  • Monolith: He won’t have a next post because I banned him for being a moron. His responses to my comment consisted of copypasta from Wikipedia on New York City population growth. Assuming he’s not a troll, he’s a perfect example of that New York-style “our shit doesn’t stink” attitude that has resulted in the white middle and working classes fleeing this state like the Reaper’s on their trail.

“New York attracts a wide diversity of people, therefore New York is the best place in the world!” Yeah, New York attracts Arab welfare bums, Indian welfare bums, Latin welfare bums, African welfare bums, hipsters on trust funds, and millionaires/billionaires. Talk about diversity!

Keep looking down on Middle America, New Yorkers. Meanwhile, they’ll keep outearning you, buying more real estate than you, having more kids than you and creating cleaner, safer, more prosperous cities then you.

In Canada “wealthy” provinces have to pay transfer payments to so-called have not provinces such as Quebec and the Maritimes. All this does is mainly fund their bureaucracies and allow them to have expensive social programs. Quebec has the lowest tuition fees in Canada or the USA, yet the students rioted when the govt. wanted to increase them. Spoiled indeed. How long will it be before Kalifornia and NY want the money transferred from states who are responsible to them like in Canada? Don’t ever allow this to happen.

“Theodore take your anti-Antisemitism to your clan rallies, idiot.”

It suprises me that there are still people who use the KKK as an argument in 2014.

You don’t need to wear hoodsto know that Jews are by far your biggest enemy if you consider what Matt has described here as a negative.

“If this is true, why does it cost so much to live in New York City? It costs so much because rich, well educated, high IQ people who would never want to move to North Dakota do want to move to one of the most exciting cities in the world.”

So you believe that IQ is a meaningful measure of intelligence. Do you know that black people are much less intelligent than whites according to IQ tests? (those that were the least “biased” btw)

“One of the things they like is the cultural diversity.”

Is that why the likes of Tim Wise, “anti-racist” extraordinaire, live in 98% white neighborhoods?

  • Myra Esoteric

No, it costs so much to live in NYC because the city proper is a small island. Same with San Francisco. When you subtract out the cost of gas and car insurance, it’s really not that much more if your income is super-low and you live in certain parts of Brooklyn or Jersey.

Also, a lot of the ‘excitement-fanatics’ only include ‘up and coming’ i.e. white or bourgeois, areas in their discussion. They don’t include certain areas where the average person lives.

  • Myra Esoteric

I always thought the problem with the Bakken phenomenon was environmentalism-related. Some sort of save-the-prairie dog thing. Why would the feminist groups not start an effort to recruit unemployed women to work in the fields?

There are plenty of women in ‘harsh’ jobs such as policing, around here so the male/female job barrier has pretty much been broken. Plenty of women want to work in the oil fields as well, but there’s probably something holding them back. Maybe the feminist groups can address that issue, who knows.
